(or maybe also you have subscribed to it, which is automatic if you reply) It doesn't, just tried and it doesn't appear.

Forgot to add and before you possibly ask, a 'hot topic' is reached when a set number of posts have been made, the admin of the forum sets this threshold, iirc 20 or 25 is the default for phpBB.
