Ah, I didn't think about a simple voltage divider.
One caveat I read is that it's not great for high speed signals. My design would probably target the 1-2 MHz range with the "dream" of 8 MHz. I didn't see any specific mentions of how fast a voltage divider like that could reliably operate. When researching, most people would use examples of 10+ MHz and advise against it.
I think I will just go ahead and add another '245. It's just that my board is already four times larger than what I had in my head. LOL
