OK, I've now tried to repeat this, and I can't - using the new official touchscreen and the latest image, using the touchscreen to set brightness repeatedly only shows a single checked item in that menu whatever I do. Looking at the code, I can't see any obvious way what is shown in your screenshot can actually happen - although it clearly is!
Can you please give more details about your setup? Are you running (as it appears) Connect at the same time as using the Pi locally? Does it still happen if you don't do that? Are you using the new touchscreen? What version of Pi, etc? TIA.
