Hardware: Raspberry Pi 5 8 GB
SD-card 250GB
OS: Raspberry Pi OS (fully updated, 2024-11-20, or 21)
The system is just being set up and is an almost new installation
My experience level: Complete beginner
After completing the latest Raspberry Pi OS updates, I can no longer log into the Pi. I.e., I enter the correct login (yes, I made sure that Caps Lock is not enabled) but get the message that it is the wrong password.
I have tried several times by rebooting etc. but nothing helps.
Just before the aforementioned update, I cloned the entire system, read over the IMG-file to another SD card which I inserted into an identical Pi 5. It worked as it should (the login code is also identical, of course). And, of course, logging into that device now, a week or so later after making the clone (with the identical password), was no problem. I.e. something must have happened to my regular Pi due the update I mentioned above - the latest update is the only thing that differs between the both devices.
So, here are two questions:
Any useful tips and suggestions are appreciated

So, here are two questions:
- Has this happened to others? And if so, is there any answer as to what could be causing this (it shouldn't be possible, or…)?
- Is there any other way to solve the problem so that I can log in to the device (that I am now locked out from), other than writing the cloned IMG file to the SD card (with the latest updates)?
(I ask this because it takes about 2,5 hours to write the IMG-file to the SD-card – I used Win32 Disk Imager and I checked the box “Read only Allocated Partitions” when I did the clone, there is some 100 MB data, maximum, but, obviously, something didn’t work out, since it took about the same time to read.)
Any useful tips and suggestions are appreciated
