Not sure how safe is it to work at 3.6V directly from battery.
Maybe a FET acting as voltage regulator could help, and who knows, maybe feeding lower voltage than 3.3V (1.8V ?) would reduce the overall current, even when you have some (smaller) losses on FET. Or another lower voltage backup battery ...
