Troubleshooting • Re: Pi 3B not booting from USB (power issue?)

If I read the docs correctly the LAN9514 should be able to deliver 500mA over USB 2.0.
The LAN9514 doesn't supply the USB current. There is a separate switch for that. The current limit for a 3B is 1.2A for USB (total, across all ports combined).

1.2A is usually enough for a HDD or SSD, but some can use more than that, especially when writing/erasing.
