Hi,Macs use SMB as well. Not a Mac expert so can't say exactly how you'd connect to a server from one.
You don't need a one to one link between users and shares. You can do that if you want to though. You'll probably need to tweak valid users on a share if you want multiple users to be able to access it.
You could always use the [homes] share for per user storage though you might want to move their home directories to your USB storage (if using any).
Access from clients is by \\server\username. By default it's not browseable so won't show up in explorer or finder.

I'd like to spread the idea... I've documented the process from a Windows POV and I'd like to post it on my computing website. I would, of course, credit you extensively and, if OK with you, include a version of your PDF as well. Would that be OK and, if so, how would you like to be credited? Thagrol?
