I have no experience with VS Code.Do you agree with the steps in this answer and would that solve the VS Code Python extension requirement?Why don't you update update from 3.7.3 and/or install a newer version? It can be messy, but you can have multiple versions of Python installed.

Asking because I'm still reading and not sure if the above method replaces the system Python version (vs custom Python installation).
That posts shows the challenges of changing versions since there is no upgrade process.
