Add: The RPI Organization is a business. They don't do it for free; they do no build hardware and software to lose money. This is a business. The way I see it, the more product I sell based on their tech, the more tech they sell and it is a mutual win-win for RPI and for my business. I've already sold thousands of my dashboard systems based on the RPI3B+. I ordered an RPI5 last week and over the weekend began working on setting it up with the latest OS to run my application. In a day's time I had my application running in the GUI flawlessly at 3X the framerate as with the RPI3B+.... BUT, the changes to the OS have prevented me from running it directly from the CLI.I am running a business. If that offends you then I am genuinely sorry.
I have no problem with folks who run businesses.
I do have a problem with folks who run businesses asking for help from volunteers without being up front about it. That's just me though others don't and it's not against forum policy.
I wish you luck with your endeavors but I won't be getting involved further.
I have reached out here for assistance AFTER exploring all other avenues to make my script work in the new bookworm OS.
No need to shout. "all other avenues" covers a lot of territory. Care to provide contact info for the Linux experts you consulted?
My question to you is: Are you REALLY here to provide your expertise and knowledge to the support of this platform
That isn't why I'm here. See below.
or are you more interested in being a sort of governing body that is trying to regulate how the raspberrypi.com organization distributes the support of their product? Correct me if I am wrong here but, I'm pretty sure you are not on RPI's payroll: yes, no?
Correct. I'm not. I'm also not trying to be any sort of "governing body". Nor am I trying to " regulate how the raspberrypi.com organization distributes the support of their product". Even if I wanted to, I have no pull on them or on other members of this community.
My suggestion to you here is simple, like the old adage we ALL learned as children: "If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all."
I explained my position. I did not say anything bad about you or anyone else. I said nothing to prevent or discourage anyone else from offering their assistance. I also explicitly stated that you had not broken any forum rules.
You are either here to help or you are here for your own ulterior motives.... and I am calling you out on those ulterior motives now, Sir.
FFS. You're coming across as an entitled, aggressive, business owner out to get something for nothing. But please note, that's about how you're presenting yourself and not a comment on what you actually are. After all, I don't know you and can only see what you have written here (which seems to be an unprovoked attack).
I'm here to help beginners, hobbyists, and Linux newbies. Not businesses out for free consultancy. And especially not businesses who fail to declare themselves as such when asking for free help.
As should have been clear above, this is a personal opinion and why I am not going to offer further help, advice, or assistance to you.
To be absolutely clear: my issue is not that you are a business owner asking for free support. It's that you did not make it clear in your initial request that this is for a commercial, for profit project. This denied myself and everyone else the opportunity to make an informed decision about whether to participate or not.
Yes, I am aware that RPL is a business. I was aware of that before I joined this forum almost thirteen years ago. I was able to make an informed choice to do so. Unlike with this thread. RPL is a business that grew out of an educational aim which I happen to agree with. That aim was, and is, still in place and still funded from the profits made by RPL.
I really don't understand how those four sentences you quoted above could have caused you so much offense. Nor why you felt it necessary to respond with a personal attack.
FWIW, there's another old saying that applies: "politeness costs nothing." I was trying to be polite and explain why I was departing this thread (obviously my departure has been delayed) and trying not to leave you hanging on a reply that was never going to come.
