General discussion • Re: Role of OSI Model in IoT Projects

— but that won't give you very good marks for your homework. Some of your other questions (such as Relevance of ARM processor mode, Learning device driver and Tasks vs Process) seem very homework-like, too.
Thank you for your reply. I want to assure you that my questions came from a real desire to learn. I posted them because I was genuinely curious and wanted to know those topics further.
This would be an excellent ChatGPT prompt (even with the typos). Unfortunately you have to know the answer in advance to decide if ChatGPT got it right.
Thank you for your feedback! English is not my first language, so I use translators to help me formulate my questions.
It sounds like a larger question than one related to RPI unless of course you happen to find someone who is using OSI for IOT on RPI.
I've encountered it in training form on courses many years ago. When considering networking and switching protocols it's worth knowing the differences in the capabilities of equipment but you'll really only need to get in depth if you are dealing directly with some development problem that specifically uses them. Otherwise, just keep the overview in mind.
I just wanted to know, when developing a project, do you actually utilize the OSI layer model, and if so, how?

Let me provide an example: Imagine we're creating a project where we deploy devices in different cities to collect temperature and humidity data.

In this project, each device includes a temperature sensor, an ADC device, and a Raspberry Pi. These devices gather data and send it to a central server via a Wi-Fi router. The server then analyzes this data and provides real-time updates through a web application or Android app.

Additionally, the sensors operate on the I2C protocol, and the MQTT protocol is used to transmit temperature data between clients and the server.

I'm looking help to understand the role of the OSI model layers in this theoretical project. Could you please explain how each layer of the OSI model relates to the functionalities of our weather monitoring system?

I've done my best to explain what I want to know , but if it's clear. If you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to ask.
