General discussion • Which is the "Proxy"?

Hi

I have two servers in Pi's one running Nextcloud and the other home information but I have one external IP. I need to be able to access the servers from wherever. I am told that:

"...you'll probably need to configure one of the Pis to act as a proxy for the other, and have that one handle the incoming traffic, as you will only be able to assign ports 80 and 443 (for HTTP and HTTPS) to one device"

But which is "the proxy" and which is" the other?" Is it the proxy that will handle the incoming traffic or...?

I have been using DDNS hosts to direct things up to now but there are security issues I need to address.

The servers are simply for my use and are not intended to be publicly accessible websites. But I need to look to the means of "keeping things to myself".

There is an amount of information about "proxies" online but none that I can find that addreeses issues other than hiding things from others while you use the net. That isn't my purpose. I simply need to be able to plug in my domain name and get to the server concerned. I have "Privoxy" installed on one of the Pis but would like advice on how to proceed.

What's the best way?
